Punjab Govt May Try Indict Journalist Sandhu and Whistleblower Pinky

PATIALA : Reliable sources have said that after investigating the Patiala prison incident, the Punjab government is planning to indict Journalist Kanwar Sandhu and former police cop Gurmeet Pinky in a criminal case.An investigation team comprising Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Jagpal Singh, ADGP (Prisons) Sri Rajpal Meena, DIG (Prison) L.S Jakhar, SSP (Patiala) Gurmeet Chauhan and Deputy Commissioner (Patiala) Sri Varun Roojam yesterday visited the Patiala jail. In a two hour’s investigation, the team gathered information about the incident from jail officials. It is notable that the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Jagpal Singh was ordered by the Chief Minister Parkash Badal to probe the lapses that caused the supposed ‘unauthorized entry’ of Kanwar Sandhu into Patiala jail and his subsequent assaulting by Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana. The entry and exit register of the Patiala jail was thoroughly checked by the probing team and the officials were asked to clarify the leakage of CCTV footage from the jail. After collecting evidences and recording witness statements, two senior officials were warned and given a dressing down by the ADGP (Prisons) Rajpal Meena.
