Punjab to go to polls on Feb 4, counting of votes on March 11

CHANDIGARH : The battle lines for Punjab assembly elections were drawn today with the announcement of election schedule for all the five states gong to polls. The voters of Punjab will vote on February 4 to elect 117 member Vidhan Sabha.
The counting of votes in all the states would take place simultaneously on March 11, 2017. The Election model code of conduct has came to force with immediate effect. The counting of votes in all the five states going to poll will be held on March 11.
Chief Election Commissioner of India(CEC) today said that the polls in Punjab will be held in single phase. The ECI Nasim Zaidi announced that notofication for Punjab elections will be issued on January 11. The last date of filing nominations will be January 18 and the scruitiny of the nomination papers will be held on January 19. The last date for withdrawl of nomination papers will be January 21. The elections in Punjab will see triangular contests between SAD-BJP alliance, Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) and Congress. All the three parties have been staking claim to form next government.
