Rail traffic affected as car bangs into overbridge railing near Phagwara

Phagwara, September 6 : Traffic on the Amritsar-Phagwara rail section remained suspended for around four hours in the wee hours of Wednesday following power failure as a car rammed into the railing of the overbridge.
Following this, the railing fell on the power lines near Chiherru, damging them.
As a result, the Katra-Delhi Sampark-Kranti Express was stranded as the power supply went off around 1 am. The car that was badly damaged in the mishap was later impounded by the Railway Protection Force. Confirming this, Phagwara station superintendent Gyan Chand said a new diesel engine brought from Ludhiana was sent to the site and the stranded train could proceed on its onward journey around 4.10 am. The RPF has registered a case under Sections 154 and 174-B of the Railway Act against the unidentified car driver, who fled the spot. Meanwhile, the Jammu-Sialdah Express remained stranded at Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station, Delhi-bound Shatabdi at Jalandhar, Shalimar Express at Jalandhar Cantt, Jammu-Gorakhpur Amarnath Express at Jalandhar Cantt, Garib Rath Express at Suchipind, Madras-Janta Express at Suchipind, Shri Shakti Express at Alawalpur, Nanded-bound Sachkhand Express at Kartarpur, Amritsar-Delhi Superfast Express at Hamira, Jansewa Express and Amarpali Express at Beas, and the Pashchim Express and Dadar Express at Jandiala Guru. They could proceed only two to four hours behind schedule.
