On Wednesday, the 23-year-old wrestler ended the country’s wait for a medal at the Rio Olympic Games as she bagged the bronze medal in the 58 kg category, pulling off a dramatic 8-5 victory in the play-off bout.Sakshi Malik clinched a historic bronze medal in women’s freestyle wrestling, ending India’s painful wait for a medal on day 12 of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. The 23-year-old Rohtak girl made the country proud when she fought back from 0-5 down to beat Kyrgyzstani Aisullu Tynybekova 8-5 in the bronze medal match. She won the medal in the women’s freestyle 58 kg category after she qualified for the Repechage round. Malik qualified for the repechage round when her conqueror in the quarterfinal, Valeria Koblova of Russia reached the final of the event. Koblova defeated Malik 9-2 in the last-eight contest.
