Senior Akali Leader Visits Bapu Surat Singh; Promises Release of Prominent Political Prisoners

LUDHIANA – A spokesperson of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and Education Minister of Punjab, Dr. Daljeet Cheema today met Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa at the DMC Hospital in Ludhiana.
The meeting took place during the evening today, in which Dr. Daljeet Cheema and Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s supporters discussed the release of various political prisoners. While additional details of the meeting are awaited, Sikh24 has learned that the Government has agreed to the transfer and parole release of Bhai Waryam Singh and 5 other prominent prisoners languishing in jails.  Bhai Waryam Singh was arrested in April of 1990 and charged under the TADA Act. He has been detained in the Bans-Bareilly Jail in Uttar Pradesh. Bhai Waryam Singh has never been released in the past 25 years. His release was approved by the Union Government Home Minister Rajnath Singh in October 2015.
