AMRITSAR : SAD-BJP Government in Punjab led by Parkash Singh Badal has opened first in India, a Women de-addiction centre in the holy city of Amritsar while at the same time Chief Minister and his son Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal claim there is no drug menace in Punjab and also accuse the opposition for defaming Punjab.
Fond for inaugurating even petty projects, Badals however stayed away from cutting ribbon of the center and instead deputed Principal secretary Health & Women welfare Vini Mahajan Vini Mahajan to preside over the inaugural ceremony.
Bhagwant Mann AAP MP said that he was saddned at the development. He said that every where in the country state governments are opening schools and colleges for women and Punjab is only state to open the drug de-addiction center for women. He said that it shows the intensity of drug proble in Punjab.
Director of the Family rehab home Dr. JPS Bhatia said that his 25 years of experience in the field of addiction treatment and his dealing with women whether they were themselves addicts or co-addicts motivated and inspired him to take up the challenging mission of starting the Women Integrated Program ( WIT ) with an all exclusive program and team catering for women addicts. This also incorporates the first ever family Rehab home where families of the addicts will be staying and undergo training through our family structured program.
To specify Dr JPS Bhatia explained that people talk about Drugs and they are unaware of addiction. Addiction is not only of Drugs it also involves in relationship addiction, mobile addiction ,internet addiction, gambling ,lust for money.
Dr Bhatia also said that as compared to men , women respond differently to the disease of addiction , biologically , psychologically and socially therefore there is a need for ” GENDER SPECIFIC AND RESPONSIVE ” treatment. Denial of recognising this fact is in itself a kind of oppression or injustice.
Dr. Bhatia added, that the sad part is that women in addiction undergo multi-folded trauma , as compared to men. They suffer more Stigma – guilt – shame , loss of relationships , and the worst of all , unavailability of proper and good treatment ,and diagnose. Women who are suffering with this disease are ” objectified ” . They are physically and sexually abused. This is a unending chain of exploitation and harassment. This leads to a TRAUMA. This deep embedded fear makes the treatment almost impossible.Dr. Bhatia believes , that the latest trends being adopted of substitution or harm reduction drug practice is more detrimental than constructive.
Another unique aspect of the program is that besides Doctors , therapists, and Counselors , there is a dedicated team of 20-30 women, who have fought the disease of addiction in various roles. Because these women have suffered the pain of addiction , they offer unparalleled DEVOTION. This fellowship is the edge that The Hermitage WIT. From security to psychiatrist , it is going to be ” all women team “.
