Sikhs to Serve Langar to Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh

New Delhi, Sept 14: Khalsa Aid (India) volunteers reached Bangladesh from Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday and will begin serving langar to the displaced people in Bangladesh on Wednesday after getting permission to provide humanitarian relief to Rohingya refugees, from local authorities in Bangladesh.According to a report, the volunteers have already purchased ingredients, utensils and other material necessary to prepare food for around 30,000 people on day one. Meanwhile, the volunteers have started distributing bottled water, biscuits and bread to the refugees arriving at the southernmost town – Teknaf – where Rohingyas are reaching after Naf river. Speaking to The Times of India, Amarpreet Singh, managing director, Khalsa Aid (India), said that arrangements have been made for a week and they are planning to continue the relief effort for a longer time. He also informed that the organisation has tied up with a local mosque which would support them in cooking langar while saying that 18 volunteers from the local Bangladeshi community have already joined them and around 7-8 will join from India soon.
