Smart City Honour is well-deserved for Amritsar, Chhina thanks Centre

AMRITSAR: Punjab Bhartiya Janata Party state vice president Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina today said that the smart city tag for the city of Golden Tempel is well deserved and timely. Thanking the BJP led NDA government in the Centre, Chhina said that the new status and the facilities that the new projects would usher in bring an all around development for the `holy city’.Chhina said the city residents would always remain thankful to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for various development projects announced for Amritsatr in the near past. He said apart from the IIM, the heritage city status and horticulture mission and now the smart city status, the city has got plethora of central schemes.He said it rare honour that Amritsar is included in the list of the 98 smart cities, which the city which attract tourists and pilgrims from all over the country and abroad, well deserve. “It is the only BJP led NDA government in Centre that had identified the potential of the city to become best in the country in the coming years. He hoped that the state government and the city administration would make the optimum use of the grants which are received under central schemes and the basic infrastructure is strengthened to make the life of the city residents easy, safe and progressive’, said Chhina.Chhina said that the city, being a border district had been ignored by the successive governments both at the centre and state and it is the high time that the city is developed as most modern one in the future. He said the city gets visitors and tourists who are shocked to see the dirty roads, streets and piles of garbage all around.“The city’s traffic is worst possible and the surroundings of the Golden Temple pose a picture of neglect. The public transport is negligible and everywhere there are illegal encroachments and mismanagement’’, said he asking the city’s Mayor Bakshi Ram Arora and city administration to seriously work for the betterment of the city, which today poses a picture of dirt, mismanaged traffic and disorder all around. –
