Moga : Akali leaders continue to face public outrage over the incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib and the plight of the farming community.
In one such incident, SAD MLA from Nihalsinghwala Bibi Rajwinder Kaur Bhagike was forced to cancel a function organised to distribute bicycles among students of Government Girls Senior Secondary School at Kokri Kalan village in the district.
Activists of the BKU (Ekta) and its allied unions today gathered outside the school. Carrying black flags, the activists shouted slogans against CM Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal for “ignoring” their demand of hiked compensation for cotton crop loss.
Sukhdev Singh Kokri, general secretary, BKU (Ekta), said they would not allow any ruling party leader to preside over public functions in the state, particularly the rural areas. The local police rushed to the spot. Sources said on learning about the protest, Rajwinder Kaur cancelled the event.
Not the first time
Earlier on December 3 last year, farmers had not allowed Bibi Bhagike to enter Dhudike village in the district. At that time also she was to distribute bicycles among girl students at a government school.
