Supreme Court Hearing on Petition Challenging HSGPC Legitimacy Deferred to December 8

NEW DELHI : On December 8, the Supreme Court of India will be deciding whether formation of the HSGPC is in accordance to the All India Gurdwara Act of 1925.  If decided otherwise, the ad-hoc committee will be nullified and SGPC will be given control over all historical Gurdwaras in Haryana. The Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee came into existence on July 23 2014 when the then Chief Minister of Haryana Bhupinder Hooda approved a separate Gurdwara committee.  Formation of the HSGPC had sparked a sharp clash between HSGPC and SGPC.  Some of the Gurdwaras (like Gurdwara Nadha Sahib) in Haryana are still being held forcefully by SGPC.The petition challenging legitimacy of the HSGPC was moved by the SGPC member Harbhajan Singh (Kurukshetra) in the Supreme Court. The case was committed to Chief Justice H.L. Kattu but due to his retirement on December 2, newly appointed Chief Justice T.S. Thakur will hear the case on December 8.
