Talks and terror cannot go together: Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi : Terror and talks cannot go together, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said on Monday at an annual press conference called to list her government’s achievements in four years of being in power.
She however referred to an April meeting called the ‘Track II dialogue’ at Neemrana between India and Pakistan saying such meetings were exceptions.
The Track II initiative, an informal dialogue process that the two countries to bring down hostilities between them, held between April 28 and 30 saw a high-powered delegation of former Indian diplomats, military veterans and academics travel to Pakistan to discuss ways to improve their frozen ties.
Former MEA secretary Vivek Katju led the delegation.
“We never said we are not ready for talks, but there is a caveat. Terror and talks cannot go together, be it post elections (Pakistan general elections scheduled for July 25) or even before. No talks so long as there are funeral processions on the border,” Swaraj said as she released a coffee table book detailing her government’s achievements. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has just entered its last year in power before general elections. She said that the India had begun talks with 186 of 192 United Nations Members, and would also cover the rest.
