Umpire Llong moved to on-field duty for NZ-Lanka series

Wellington : Controversial umpire Nigel Llong, who made ‘an incorrect judgment’ during the historic day-night Test in Adelaide, has been removed from the third umpire duty and in turn moved to on-field duty for the two-match Test series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka.Earlier, Llong had refused to overturn the original not-out verdict while deciding on New Zealand ‘s review of the appeal for catch against Nathan Lyon on the second day. However, Hot Spot technology revealed a mark on the top edge of the Australian spinner’s bat.The ICC later admitted that Llong had made an incorrect decision and wrote on Twitter,”ICC has reviewed the decision and acknowledged that it was incorrect.” “ICC confirms the umpire followed the correct protocol, but made an incorrect judgment,” the cricket governing body added.Llong, who replaced Billy Doctrove in the ICC’s Elite Panel of international umpires in 2012, has officiated in 33 Tests, 98 ODIs and 27 T20 internationals till now, ESPNcricinfo reported.
