Visitors in for a treat at Retreat ceremony

Amritsar : Come 2018, watching the Retreat ceremony at the Attari-Wagah Joint Check Post (JCP) would be a different experience.
Besides a new U-shape spectators’ gallery with higher seating capacity and better viewing arrangement, the approach road is being spruced up to give it a modern look with a heritage tinge. The BSF has tied up with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for the purpose. Under the project, the 800-yard stretch (from zero point to the old customs’ gate) will be relaid.
JS Oberoi, DIG, BSF, Amritsar, said landscaping would be done to give a pleasant look to the area. To beautify it further, ornamental trees were being planted and high-tech lights would be installed on either side of the passage.
The 80-ft Swarn Jyanti Dwar, located at the entry point of the spectators’ gallery, is being revamped. A new milestone has been placed near this spot with “Pakistan Next Step” written on it. Another added attraction would be a museum, coming up parallel to this project. This museum would depict the glorious history of the BSF, its achievements, weapons and other related aspects. There will also be a cafeteria for visitors, open-air theatre, furnished toilets, observational tower and a VIP gallery.
