Water works in rural areas not to be disconnected

Chandigarh, June 13: The water works in the rural areas would not be disconnected for non-payment of electricity bill.
The instructions to this effect were issued by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here today in response to the issue having been raised by Congress MLA from Ferozepur Parminder Singh Pinki.
He brought this problem to the notice of the Chief Minister at a meeting of the MLAs and MP from Ferozepur in the context of 350th anniversary celebrations of Anandpur Sahib.
Pinki availed the occasion to raise this sensitive issue as the tubewell connections in several villages in his constituency have been disconnected for non-payment of bill. At the root of the problem is the problem of non-payment of bills by the consumers in the rural areas.
Pinki impressed upon the Chief Minister that while the state government was providing free power for tubewells in the farm sector, there was no logic in disconnecting water works for non-payment of bills as these were comparatively small amounts.Pinki said Badal issued instructions to the authorities concerned on the spot against taking such extreme steps.
