WICB slams dissolution calls, promises changes

Johannesburg : Days after calls for the dissolution of the West Indies Cricket Board erupted, the embattled board has hit back at its critics claiming it was trying to find ‘workable solutions’ in a bid to keep its top-level players tied to the national team.
Earlier this month, West Indies T20 captain Darren Sammy had launched a passionate outburst against the board after guiding the Caribbean team to their second World Twenty20 title.
He received widespread support from his teammates and former players, with all-rounder Dwayne Bravo describing the WICB president ‘immature’, ‘arrogant’ and ‘small-minded’.
The WICB said in a media statement that they would meet with the players to discuss the pertaining issues at a retreat in the summer, insisting that it ‘so far has lived up to its promises’, Sport24 reported. The Caribbean players were locked in a pay cut dispute with their country’s cricket board, which threw their participation in jeopardy prior to the World T20.
