After two COVID-impacted years, the award-winning Parramatta Lanes festival is pulling out all stops to encourage visitors to lose themselves in the multicultural flavours and food delights of the area. 2022 sees the event return for its 11th year, with a belated 10th birthday fanfare culminating at Centenary Square.
“It’s going to be wonderful to welcome visitors to Parramatta Lanes this year to reconnect with their city through family-friendly and diverse food experiences,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Donna Davis said.
“Sharing a meal brings people closer together, and we are proud to host a re-energised Parramatta Lanes festival that celebrates what is unique about our city. This event reinforces Parramatta as a destination for authentic food experiences.”
Over 50,000 people are expected to visit the event from 5pm-10pm across the four big nights and enjoy dishes from dozens of food stalls. Foodies can feast on cultural cuisines from the Middle East, Korea, Thailand, India, Italy, China and the Philippines to name a few. A range of food trucks will satisfy anyone with a hankering for street food, while those looking for a liquid refreshment can visit one of the event’s four pop-up bars.
Featuring the biggest belated birthday party that Western Sydney has ever experienced, Parramatta Lanes is celebrating its double-digit birthday in sweet style with birthday dessert giveaways each night.
Items up for grabs include donuts by cheeky, creative Dessert Boxes; authentic Filipino Ube Yema and Mango Royale cupcakes from Tita’s Cakes; bespoke Parramatta Lanes fortune cookies from local KneadyBoi; and delightful creations from KOI Dessert Bar.
Sweet-toothed Laners will enjoy delectable delights from Donut Stuffing and Stroop Bros, and freshly baked sweet and savoury waffles from Wafflo. Enjoy a stunning view and a delectable morsel, with crème brûlées from Torch Me, sticky date puddings from Stickybake and vegan-friendly, kosher and halal donuts from OMG Donuts.
If savoury flavours are more your style, try tender fried chicken from cultural revolution Butter Parramatta, juicy and festive Mrs Wang’s Dumplings, café favourites served 1950s-style from The Urban Gypsy Café, and authentic biryanis from local legends Hyderabad House. There’s also alfresco dining and a sampling take away menu with dishes from contemporary pan-Asian restaurant Lilymu.
Visitors will also have the chance to devour Birdman’s Korean fried chicken, Burger Head’s scrumptious hamburgers, the Thai-infused flavours of Satay Bros, the never-miss creations from Korean BBQ, and Aussie-favourite jaffles from Pocket Rocketz. For more meaty offerings, opt for prime cuts from Firepop; and burgers, sandwiches and wraps from The Pharaoh BBQ. Baba Ghanouj is offering a grab-and-go menu and a separate licensed area, serving authentic Lebanese food, wine and beer. Hidden Harvest will be tackling how to creatively reduce food waste in your home and showcasing a few recipes for visitors.
Archie Rose Bar will whip up its signature cocktails and two exclusive Parramatta Lanes-themed cocktails for the occasion at a Centenary Square pop-up bar, and there will be a selection of wines, beers and cocktails from Bar30 in Church St; WatsOn will be serving drinks under the neon lights at Erby Place Carpark and Bar Bae will be keeping patrons hydrated on Lennox Bridge.
Two of Italy’s most well-known pleasures – gelato and coffee – will help finish off the evening at Parramatta Lanes’ hidden gem, Red Cow Lane.
A smorgasbord of returning foodie favourites as well as new eateries to try are dotted across Parramatta Lanes site locations including Parramatta Square, Centenary Square, St. John’s Lawn, Church Street, Red Cow Lane, Erby Place Carpark, Lennox Bridge and more.
