PM Modi Pens Preface for Giorgia Meloni’s Autobiography; Italian Leader Calls It an Honour

Rome, Sep 29 – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has expressed that she feels “deeply honoured” after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote the preface to her autobiography I Am Giorgia – My Roots, My Principles, which is set to be released in India.

Calling Meloni an “extraordinary political leader who combines ideas and heart,” PM Modi described her book as a reflection of “Mann Ki Baat” — ideas that come from the heart. He underlined the cultural and civilisational bond between India and Italy, highlighting values such as heritage preservation, community strength, and the celebration of femininity as a guiding force.

In response, Meloni conveyed her gratitude, saying, “The words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for whom I have profound respect, deeply touch and honour me. I wholeheartedly reciprocate these sentiments, which reaffirm the strong bond between our nations.”

Italian news agency Adnkronos, which reviewed the preface, noted its personal and symbolic tone, underscoring Modi’s emphasis on the friendship he shares with Meloni and their mutual ability to blend tradition with modernity.

PM Modi expressed confidence that Meloni’s autobiography would inspire readers: “I am certain it will be received as the story of an extraordinary contemporary political leader and patriot. It was a great honour to write this preface.”

The Italian media also highlighted the significance of this gesture, pointing out that Modi has previously written only two other prefaces — for a 2014 book on Anandiben Patel and for Bollywood icon-turned-politician Hema Malini’s autobiography in 2017.

The rapport between the two leaders has attracted global attention, especially since Meloni’s selfie with Modi at COP28 in Dubai in December 2023 went viral. The popular hashtag #Melodi has since sparked millions of engagements across social media platforms each time they meet.

In his closing remarks, Modi likened Meloni’s autobiography not merely to a memoir but to her own “Mann Ki Baat” — a phrase closely tied to his monthly radio programme that has become one of his signature communication channels since 2014.
