Google Unveils New Anti-Scam Tools and AI Safety Measures for Kids and Seniors in India

New Delhi, Nov 20 — Google has announced a comprehensive safety-focused roadmap for India, prioritising protection for children, teenagers, and older adults as the country accelerates its digital and AI adoption.

The tech giant introduced a suite of on-device, real-time anti-scam tools, text watermarking technology, and digital-literacy programmes to make AI usage safer and more inclusive.

A key feature, Scam Detection powered by Gemini Nano, will debut on Pixel devices. It analyses calls in real time on the device itself—without recording audio, saving transcripts, or sharing data with Google. The tool remains off by default, works only on calls from unknown numbers, plays a beep to alert participants, and can be disabled anytime by users.

Google is also expanding access to SynthID Detector and open-sourcing its SynthID text-watermarking tool, which helps organisations identify AI-generated content such as images and audio.

To further strengthen digital safety, Google announced a grant of $200,000 to the CyberPeace Foundation to boost AI-enabled cyber-defence capabilities, support safer online environments for children and teens, and promote responsible governance aligned with the IndiaAI Mission.

Additionally, the company is providing $1 million to five leading think tanks and universities across the Asia-Pacific region to support crucial AI research and policy dialogue.

“As India’s digital economy continues to expand, we are committed to building AI systems that protect user trust,” said Evan Kotsovinos, Vice President, Privacy, Safety and Security at Google.

“We are adopting a 360-degree safety approach, combining device-level and cloud-based protections with digital-literacy initiatives to empower users,” added Preeti Lobana, Country Manager, Google India.
