Evolution of International education set to take centre stage at AIEC 2023

In the past year, international students and host countries worldwide have faced new opportunities and challenges due to ongoing changes in the sector. This week, leaders in international education will gather at
the Australian International Education Conference (AIEC), co-hosted by IDP Education and the International
Education Association of Australia (IEAA).

This year’s AIEC will be held in Adelaide from Tuesday 10 to Friday 13 October, addressing the theme
“International education: visionary and transformative”. It aims to explore how the international education sector can continue to transform people, places and ideas to create a more inclusive and connected world.

More than 1700 delegates will convene to discuss how the sector can continue to thrive amid rapid changes in an ever-evolving social, political and cultural landscape.

IDP Education Chief Executive Officer, Tennealle O’Shannessy said AIEC 2023 provides a forum for industry
leaders to discuss the opportunities and challenges in international education.

“At AIEC 2023 will be able to reflect on how we can best build a sustainable future for the industry, and how we can promote the importance and benefits of international education to those outside our industry who make decisions and shape policies.”

IEAA Chief Executive Officer, Phil Honeywood, said IEAA is proud to co-host another AIEC alongside IDP
Education amid Australia’s resurgence as a study destination among international students.

“Australia has long played an instrumental role catalysing the development and transformation of the global
education sector. It’s only fitting that this week the sector’s leaders will come together in Adelaide to find
ways to continue to drive these advancements and support the sector’s ongoing growth.”

The four-day program at the Adelaide Convention Centre will include various sessions, including plenary talks, panels, presentations, and interactive campfire and roundtable discussions. Experts will come together to discuss critical themes such as artificial intelligence, the future of international student markets and the costof-living crisis in the context of international education.

Respected journalists and commentators Annabel Crabb and Stan Grant will be Co-Masters of Ceremonies,
and the conference will feature keynote addresses from The Hon. Jason Clare Minister for Education, The
Hon. Brendan O’Connor, Minister for Skills and Training, and Her Excellency the Honourable Frances
Adamson AC.
