New Delhi, Aug 27 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finnish President Alexander Stubb held a wide-ranging telephonic discussion on Wednesday, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties, advancing technology partnerships, and addressing key global issues, including the Ukraine conflict.
In a post on X, PM Modi described the exchange as a “good conversation,” underlining Finland’s importance as a valued partner within the European Union.
The two leaders reviewed ongoing collaboration in critical areas such as trade, sustainability, and digital technologies. They agreed to accelerate cooperation in cutting-edge domains like quantum computing, 6G, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity — areas where India’s innovation drive complements Finland’s technological expertise.
President Stubb reaffirmed Finland’s strong support for the swift conclusion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), expected to open new avenues for trade and investment. He also welcomed India’s upcoming AI Impact Summit 2026, emphasizing Finland’s backing for New Delhi’s leadership in shaping global AI governance and ethical standards.
On international affairs, the Finnish leader shared insights from recent high-level talks in Washington involving Europe, the US, and Ukraine. PM Modi reiterated India’s consistent stance on resolving the Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, highlighting the need for peace and stability.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation across sectors. PM Modi also invited President Stubb to visit India, a step expected to further enhance bilateral engagement.
