Takhat sri Damdama sahib should be included immediately in Delhi Gurdwara act- Inder Mohan Singh

Delhi- 29th April :  President of Dashmesh Sewa Society (Regd) and former member of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) Mr Inder Mohan Singh demanded that Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib located at Talwandi Sabo in Punjab State should immediately be included in the Delhi Sikh Gurdwaras Act, 1971. He said that in this regard, an Amendment Bill passed by the Delhi Legislative Assembly and duly consented by the Lt. Governor was forwarded to the Central Government for approval some years back, but it appears that the said Bill has been thrown in cold storage by the Central Government. He further said that the Delhi Sikh Gurdwaras Act 1971 is a Central Act passed by the Parliament, hence any fresh amended provision in this Act requires approval of the Central Government. Mr Inder Mohan Singh said that the said Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib has already been incorporated long back in April, 1999 by the Central Government in The Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925 applicable to the election of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) but it has been kept out of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwaras Act 1971 till now.

Mr Inder Mohan Singh raised question and asked why the Central Government is reluctant to include this great Takhat Sahib also known as ‘Guru Ki Kashi’ ? He appeals to the government to immediately include the Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib in the Delhi Gurdwaras Act 1971 as fifth Sikh Takhat. Mr Singh said that after induction of this Takhat, the number of Co-opted members to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) will increase from 9 to 10 and simultaneously the General House will consists of 56 members instead of present 55, although the Jathedars of all Takhat Sahiban have no voting right either in the Executive Board or General House of the DSGMC.  It is pertinent to mention that Sri Akal Takhat Sahib Sri Amritsar, Takhat Sri Keshgarh Sahib Sri Anandpur Sahib, Takhat Sri Harmandir Sahib, Patna Sahib and Takhat Sri Hazur Sahib Nanded are already included in the Delhi Sikh Gurdwaras Act 1971.
