NSW, Friday 28 October 2022: This week as we mark Children’s Week in Australia, the Advocate for Children and Young People, Zoë Robinson, launched a new ‘Postcards to the Advocate’ initiative to hear directly from children and young people about what matters to them.
The work of the Advocate is guided by listening to the views and opinions of children and young people from across NSW. The Advocate then takes this information to decision makers in government to guide the development of policies and services to support children and young people.
“Children and young people are thoughtful and insightful, they know what they need in their lives to ensure they have opportunities to thrive”
“These postcards are another avenue in which children and young people can help me understand more about how government and community can better support their needs – both in the present and into the future,” said Ms Robinson.
Earlier this year the Advocate released the second Strategic Plan for Children and Young People that elevates the voices of children and young people and aims to ensure they have the supports they need from government, business and community to thrive.
The six core commitments of the Plan are: Hope for the Future; Love, Safety and Connection; Health and Wellbeing; A Good Standard of Living; Environments for Joy and Fun; and Respect and Acceptance.
“The Plan’s positive vision was drawn directly from what we’ve heard from children and young people from across NSW. Children and young people regularly tell us they want to make the world a better place and I am looking forward to hearing what they have to say.”
“I ask everyone who works with children and young people to visit the ACYP website and order free postcards for the children and young people in their lives to complete” said Ms Robinson.
Postcards can be ordered from www.acyp.nsw.gov.au there is no charge for delivery and the postage is paid for each postcard.
