Trump Plans to Visit India Next Year, Calls PM Modi ‘A Great Man’

Washington, November 7:
Former US President Donald Trump has announced plans to visit India next year, describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “a great man” and “a friend.”

Speaking at a press conference at the White House on Thursday, Trump said that trade talks between the two countries are progressing well. “He’s a friend of mine, and we speak often. He wants me to go there, and we’ll figure that out. I’ll go—he’s a great man,” Trump said.

When asked specifically if the visit could happen in 2025, Trump replied, “It could be, yeah,” recalling his previous trip to India in 2020. “I had a great trip there with the Prime Minister,” he added.

Trump also claimed that India has “largely stopped buying oil from Russia,” underscoring the ongoing cooperation between New Delhi and Washington on trade and energy matters.

His remarks came just days after the White House reaffirmed Trump’s strong rapport with Prime Minister Modi. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the two leaders “speak pretty frequently,” adding that Trump “feels very positive and strongly about the bilateral relationship.”

Leavitt further stated that trade negotiations between the two sides are in “serious discussions,” reflecting the administration’s commitment to strengthening ties with India.

She also referred to Trump’s recent Diwali celebration at the White House and the appointment of Sergio Gor as the new US Ambassador to India as signs of deepening engagement. “The President celebrated Diwali in the Oval Office with many high-ranking Indian American officials and spoke directly with Prime Minister Modi. We have a great ambassador in Sergio Gor, who will represent the United States very well,” she said.

Trump had hosted a special Diwali event on October 21, where he once again praised Prime Minister Modi as “a great person” and expressed his admiration for the people of India.
