Under the new ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, 48 hostages held in Gaza are expected to be returned — 20 of whom are believed to be alive. The exchange, set for Monday morning (local time), marks the first stage of a broader peace deal.
As part of the arrangement, Israel will release around 250 Palestinian prisoners along with 1,700 detainees held without charge from the Gaza Strip. The following are the 20 Israeli hostages still believed to be alive.
1. Matan Angrest, 22
An Israeli soldier captured near the Gaza border while defending the Nahal Oz base. A devoted Maccabi Haifa fan, Matan was planning a Dubai trip to celebrate his discharge when he was abducted.
2 & 3. Gali and Ziv Berman, 28
Twin brothers kidnapped from Kfar Aza kibbutz during the October 7 attack. Both worked in music production and supported Maccabi Tel Aviv and Liverpool. Their parents survived the assault.
4. Elkana Bohbot, 36
A producer of the Supernova festival, Bohbot was captured during the massacre. A father and husband, he was granted Colombian nationality posthumously by Colombia’s president. In Hamas videos, he appears visibly weak but alive.
5. Rom Braslavski, 21
A Jerusalem-born security guard of Israeli-German descent, Rom stayed behind to help others at Supernova. Injured and later shown in a propaganda video, he appeared frail but alive.
6. Nimrod Cohen, 21
Taken from his malfunctioning tank near Nahal Oz, Cohen’s three fellow soldiers were killed. His family has since become vocal advocates for the hostages’ release.
7 & 8. David and Ariel Cunio, 35 and 28
Argentinian-Israeli brothers abducted with family members from Nir Oz kibbutz. Six relatives have since been freed. Filmmaker Tom Shoval’s A Letter to David was made in their honor.
9. Evyatar David, 24
Abducted from Supernova with his friend Guy Gilboa Dalal. Shown emaciated in a Hamas video, David had been saving for a Thailand trip before his capture.
10. Guy Gilboa Dalal, 24
Kidnapped alongside David. His family identified him in Hamas videos. A fan of Japanese culture, he dreamt of visiting Japan.
11. Maxim Herkin, 37
Born in Ukraine, Herkin moved to Israel with his mother. He was seen injured in captivity after being kidnapped from the festival grounds.
12. Eitan Horn, 39
An Argentine-Israeli educator abducted with his brother from Nir Oz. His brother Yair was freed earlier in 2025.
13. Segev Kalfon, 27
Captured while fleeing Supernova along Route 232. Survivors confirmed he was alive during part of his captivity.
14. Bar Kupershtein, 23
An army nurse who stayed behind to aid the wounded. His family calls him a “born rescuer.” Videos showed him tied and detained.
15. Omri Miran, 48
A therapist taken from his home in Nahal Oz before his wife and daughters. In Hamas videos, he pleads for a deal under clear duress.
16. Eitan Mor, 25
A security guard at Supernova from a devout family. His father founded a group opposing negotiations with Hamas.
17. Yosef Chaim Ohana, 25
A barman at Supernova who helped the injured before being captured. Appeared in May 2025 in Hamas footage alongside Elkana Bohbot.
18. Alon Ohel, 24
A gifted pianist and dual citizen of Israel, Serbia, and Germany. Witnesses confirmed he was wounded but alive after his abduction.
19. Avinatan Or, 32
A British-Israeli engineer taken with his partner Noa Argamani, who was rescued in June 2024. They planned to move in together before the attack.
20. Matan Zangauker, 25
Kidnapped from Nir Oz with his girlfriend Ilana Gritzewsky, who was released during the first truce in 2023. His mother has since become a leading campaigner for hostage release.
The Path Ahead
While the upcoming ceasefire promises hope for families, uncertainty remains about the physical and emotional state of the hostages. Their release — and the broader prisoner swap — marks a crucial moment in efforts to end one of the region’s most painful chapters.
