New Delhi, June 23 — Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday met US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, discussing ways to move forward on a balanced and mutually beneficial bilateral trade agreement.
In a post on X, Goyal said India and the United States continue to share a strong and growing economic partnership.
He described the discussions as productive, focused on advancing negotiations in line with the Joint Statement of February 7, 2026, and reiterated India’s commitment to strengthening economic cooperation and expanding opportunities for growth and innovation.
The talks come as both countries work towards finalising a bilateral trade agreement aimed at deepening economic ties and unlocking new opportunities for businesses on both sides.
Earlier, US Ambassador Sergio Gor welcomed USTR Jamieson Greer to India, noting that the visit would help drive forward the ambitious trade agenda between the two countries. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to conclude a strong trade agreement to further enhance the economic partnership.
Greer’s visit marks a key phase in continuing negotiations between New Delhi and Washington. Several meetings are planned with Indian officials to push forward the proposed deal.
The engagement follows recent chief negotiator-level discussions, as both sides aim to finalise an interim arrangement that could lead to a broader trade pact.
Officials have indicated that both countries are working to resolve outstanding issues, with hopes of concluding the first phase of the agreement in the coming weeks. The negotiations are also significant ahead of the expiry of a temporary US tariff measure next month.
