Leeds, June 17 — Australia skipper Sophie Molineux lauded her side’s comprehensive performance after a commanding nine-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Headingley, highlighting the squad’s depth and adaptability across conditions.
Australia delivered a dominant all-round display to secure their second straight win of the tournament. Bangladesh were restricted to 77/8 in 20 overs before Australia chased the target down in just 9.3 overs, with opener Georgia Voll finishing unbeaten on 45.
Molineux said opting to bowl first worked perfectly for her side, as the bowlers quickly adapted to the conditions and executed their plans effectively.
She noted that the early movement on offer suited their attack, with Kim Garth making early breakthroughs and the rest of the bowling unit maintaining pressure throughout. Elyssa Perry and Molineux herself also picked up wickets as Bangladesh struggled to build any momentum after a shaky start.
A major positive for Australia was the form of experienced all-rounder Ellyse Perry, who contributed with two wickets and an unbeaten 19 during the chase. Molineux praised Perry’s consistency and work ethic, saying she continues to refine her game and thrives in helpful bowling conditions due to her ability to generate movement off the pitch.
She also underlined the strength of Australia’s squad depth, saying the team has multiple match-winners suited to any surface or opposition.
Special praise was reserved for Georgia Voll, whose aggressive 45 not out, featuring six fours and a six, ensured a smooth and rapid chase. Molineux said Voll’s clean striking ability was on full display and played a key role in wrapping up the game quickly. Voll was named Player of the Match.
With two wins from two matches, Australia have made a strong start to the tournament. However, Molineux stressed the importance of staying grounded, reiterating the need to focus on one game at a time while still appreciating strong performances like this one.
