Putin Arrives in Beijing for Two-Day State Visit to China

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Beijing on Tuesday night for a two-day State Visit to China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The visit, taking place from May 19 to 20, marks Putin’s 25th trip to China and comes at a significant moment in bilateral relations. This year commemorates the 30th anniversary of the China-Russia strategic partnership and the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness and Friendly Cooperation between the two nations.

During the visit, the two leaders are expected to hold extensive talks covering bilateral cooperation, trade, regional security, and global geopolitical developments. Discussions are also likely to focus on strengthening economic and strategic ties amid evolving international dynamics.

Ahead of his arrival, Putin described Russia-China relations as having reached “an unprecedented level,” highlighting the importance of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries. He emphasised that the partnership is built on mutual trust, respect for sovereignty, and a shared commitment to expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.

Chinese officials also underlined the significance of the visit, stating that both nations aim to further deepen coordination and contribute stability to the global landscape through stronger collaboration.

Reports suggest that recent international developments, including US President Donald Trump’s engagement with China, could also feature in discussions during Putin’s Beijing meetings.
